How did a St. Paul Gal End up Owning a Winery in the Willamette Valley?
Raptor Ridge Proprietress, Annie
Christensen Shull is a native of St. Anthony Park in St. Paul. After graduating
from Como Park High School, briefly attending the U of M, Annie then finished
her undergraduate at Hampshire College in Massachusetts. Her first career path
landed her in the Silicon Valley, from whence she was recruited to company
headquarters outside of Portland, Oregon. There Annie met her future husband,
Scott Shull, a budding winemaker, who launched his first commercial vintage in
1995. These two high tech refugees combined forces, and with their joint
business acumen, marketing, education, and sales skills, have grown a 500-case
production to 6500 in the last 15 years. Scott, self-taught and learning from
every vintage, focuses his artistry and drive to make his acclaimed wines in
the finest New World pinot-producing region: the Willamette Valley. Annie leads
the sales and marketing efforts of Raptor Ridge, as well being a leader in the
Oregon Wine Industry. Annie is a Director on the Oregon Pinot Camp and Wineries
of the Willamette Boards. The Shulls are both very involved in the Salud Wine
Auction and more recently, the International Pinot Noir Celebration. Traveling
the US to promote Raptor Ridge, Annie tries to stop by and see the folks at
home as often as possible. She can frequently be found presenting her wines at
Twin Cities tastings, wine dinners, and charity events. The Shulls look
forward to opening their own Estate Winery in the Fall of 2010.
